Froadin' for the first time with JKS discos...

Wow, what an amazing difference!

Was at a BORDC novice competition and came joint second from 9 entrants - all 8 other were defenders and discos, mostly modified to some extent.

Have done a bit of damage though. The passenger-side bracket that the bottom of the dis-connect attaches to bent - no idea how I managed that! Had to drive home with that disco cable-tied to the anti-roll bar and I'll take the wheel off tonight and try to hammer it back into place.

Second thing (and this is a recurring problem) is that my bottom leaf springs keep rotating slightly around the centre point where the u-bolts are. This means the rear end of the leaf can touch the tyre! I've tried tightening the u-bolts but I've obviously not tightened them enough, Anyone else experienced this?

Cutting off the rear ant-roll bar has also made a big difference. If anyone with an xj hasn't done it I can highly recommend it. I reckon it's actually improved the road handling of my xj

I was getting a bit of ribbing for turning up in a non-landie today but managed a few solihull scalps... One particularly tricky bit that foiled 3x discoveries, a 90 and a 110 was no problem at all for Jolly Green - I just sailed through  :lol:  :lol:

Well done Lefty.......hope you get the minor damage sorted without too much trouble
Its suprising what the XJ`s can do.Mine was phenominal off road as a few others will tell you.Wished i could have kept it but unlike some of the other more affluent members,i could only afford one jeep and decided on keeping the CJ.Thats getting there though,thanks to help from other members  :)  :)

I left my TJ disconnected for weeks, and yes it did lean a bit but you get used to it.

I would not like to leave it disconnected if it was my daily ride, but going to and from off road sites it was ok.

sounds like you need new hendricks clamps for your rear leafs............. pro comp do cheap ones

It's not a dumb ass question! :wink:
If you look at your rear leaf spring pack, you'll have something similar near the ends! These ones can be fitted further down the spring pack (nearer the axle) to stop the shorter leafs pushing out sideways..........does that make sense?

My Skyjacker springs did exactly the same thing.  The helper leaves kept turning round.  Fitted some of them there clamp things and problem solved.

Just fit them as close to the axle as you can so that the helper leaf don't stop the spring from drooping properly. :wink:

I've decided to make my own, got some 2" bar and am going to bend it and weld it to the bottom leaf. Anyone else tried this??

I know the clamps aren't exactly dear but my father-in-law's got a welder sitting in his garage and I want to play with it  :twisted:  :twisted:

No, but springs are made from hardened steel, not mild steel. I think someone may know better, but I'd guess you'll most likely just make a mess and ruin the spring.

What ever you do DON'T weld to the spring!!!

They're made of spring steel which is given it's properties by heat treating.
The heat from the welder will f**k them.

All you need is a bit of steel strip about 3/4 of an inch wide.  Fold it into shape around the spring so that there is a couple of tabs at the top that you can drill and stick a bolt through.  It don't need to be heavy duty, :wink:
