I've been in touch with Herm The OverDriveGuy in the states.
He's quoted £660 incl shipping for an overdrive.
Apparently I have to count my teeth and splines - Hmmmm.
Any thoughts as to which option I should go for would be appreciated as this means a lot of hours at the sweat shop to pay for this little lot.
Alternatively I could just wear ear deffenders and drive on Motorways between 2 and 4 am while the kids sit in the back swinging a Tilley Lamp.
Aparently the easiest method to count teeth and splines on an old Mitsi is:
Pull the rear domed or flat cover off of the transfercase
and remove the nut that holds the transmission output
shaft to the transfer input gear.
Look at the end of the transmission shaft, it should have 6
or 10 splines. Re-install the back cover.
Remove the bottom side cover (at an angle) on the transfercase.
Put the transmission and transfer case in neutral.
Count the teeth on the big gear on the transmission
output shaft, it should have 26, 29 or 31 teeth.
