Exide Maxxima Batterys

Is anyone using the Exide maxxima battery on there Jeep, Looking at getting one just wondering if there any good and can take winching better than standard batteries.
I know they are suposed to be the competiter for Optima, I just have a chance at getting a Exide for alot less.

If your after a good deep cycle battery for a winch, use a caravan leasure battery ;)

Don't use em for starting though, and have em through a split charger.

Odyssey's can be good.
But be carefull:
I bought one for my Seadoo & it didn't perform to great despite the massive price tag.
Their warranty is very flawed; the UK distributors I used didn't honour the warranty documentation that was even present in the box; they only gave a 1yr warranty. I had numerous calls with Odyssey US & it was never resolved.

That said an Odyssey for a Jeep from Devon 4x4 may be an easier experience.

I have found Devon 4x4's service to be very good, even if their prices aren't the cheapest. I got the odyssey after the courier destroyed my optima when I was returning it to D4x4. The optima (yellow top) became useless after 9 months - possibly because it got flat once but I have no such problems with the odyssey, it can stand for 3 weeks and still start no problem. The odysseys have gone up in price a bit recently though  :shock:

My only reason for looking at the Exide is I can get one for less than £100,

To be honest my current battery from Halofrds did a lot of winching and I then stalled the car after a full pull and it started up straight away not problems.

I would go for a 'normal' battery unless you want a deep cycle for any reason - then go Odyssey rather than Optima.

What are you guys paying for these "trick" batteries?

I've got a 125Ah tractor battery for Yellow Peril.
£103 from Telford Farm Machinery 2 year guarentee.

I take it you meant a 1250 Ah battery?

I have bought 750Ah batteries for previous XJ's for around £60 from my local parts place. Currently have an optima on the XJ that was on it when bought but I think it is on its way out, off for a cheapy next

Ah is different to Cranking Amps (CA) scrw, Ah relates to capacity rather than cranking as I understand it.

e.g. My Odyssey 1500 is 1500CA and 68Ah, an Optima yellow top is 55Ah.

Dunno wot the CA of this tractor jobbie is, I know I went OTT in fabricating the mount for it.
380x140x260high, thats one big mutha, gotta insulate the exhaust header now!
Cheapo T-Max winch goin upfront is 5.5 Hp it says.
So if 1 Hp = 746W of power thats 4.103 KW at 12V meaning 342A current draw on the battery.
I know it never works out 100% right, but I think theres about 20 minutes of winching time there.

Just mention it again, a caravan / motorhome lesure battery rated at 110 amps is about £70 at the moment and deep cycle which is exactly what's needed for a winch. You can spend big money on a lead acid and be buying exactly the same thing.  It's all down to the sticker on the side ;)

Below is the write up from Exide for the Maxxima battery, The only difference is the UK don't market the the battery as a Maxxima, its a wheelchair battery.

Do you have a model number for the Oddesy battery so I can get a price on these.

I sell fork trucks for a living (or try to) so I deal with most major battery manufactures Exide is owned buy a company CMP and Oddesy are Enersys batterys who are owner buy Hawker Batterys and I buy alot of fork truck batterys from both of them so i get a good price. The exides are £85, I know Scorpian racing sell them at £160. So it should be interesting to see what price the Oddesy will come back at so if anybody has a Type number.

Mine is a PC1500 cos that was the biggest I could fit in my battery tray. Others use other sizes. The smaller ones are quite capable of starting a 4.0l XJ and you can even squeeze 2 of them it if you get creative.

I paid about £140 but they're now about £190 from Devon 4x4 - although they are far from the cheapest 4x4 supplier around  :lol:
