Front Drive shaft

I got an advisery on my recent  MoT saying that the N/F drive shaft had a bit of play (too much).

Will that explain the 'clacking' noise I get when pulling away and when trying to park in a space etc?
I suspect it is because I've jacked the front up and can replicate the noise by turning the wheel a small amount and the 'clack' seems to be the slack in the uj. It isn't tight in anyway, just loose.
Is this a serious problem or can I run with it for a week or 2?
Will trying to get grease into it make much difference?
Will running in RWD instead off Full Time 4 make any difference?
Is it easy enough to DIY? And if so what do I need, just a new UJ or a whole new shaft? and will a 2nd hand one from a scrappy be any use?

get a new uj from lighthouse jeep around £20 depending on what type. they can be removed with a good g clamp and a couple of sockets, they can take 1/2 hr or longer depending on how seized the bearing caps are in the prop housing.
 run in 2wd but aim to get them changed as they wear the clunking and juddering gets worse
