Internal High-lift jack mount
« on: May 25, 2009, 01:41:05 PM »

Finally got round to removing the rear seat from the TJ yesterday, hasn't been used for I dont know how long, usual affair, 2 out of the 4 bolts holding the brackets to the floor sheared off  :|

Got one of them already matey, used it all the time in the XJ, but in the TJ no room for the mut in the back.

I have always stowed the necessary stuff behind the front seats, with the back seat folded up it was out of harms way but now exposed by rear seat removal. Was hoping to find something that slotted in behind the front seats.

Made two brackets for mine to fit to roll cage runs diagonally from drivers side seat belt coil to top of rear roll bar, I can take some photo's tomorrow if you want.  Had to do it this way as its 5 foot and won't fit across the TJ.

Cheers

Despite having contributed to this thread ....my question is why do you need a Hi Lift/Farm jack????

I've only once ever seen one used at PnP.....and that IIRC was in the car park....

On a H&S rating of 1-10 it must score -15

Why are they so rated???

And yes I've got one....why dunno....

Never had one, used one or needed one, but always wanted one, besides changing a wheel, can also be used as hand winch if normal winch fails and I'm sure others will have other uses.

Stew your trouble is you dont know how to use one....... #-o  #-o
I often use mine and used it recently to lift the body away from the wheels to fit my extended trim, but its great for say removing springs or shocks as you can lift body away from the axle and make them easier to remove,as well as a thousand and one other uses as was covered in a previous thread like changing tyres and as a winch etc

Pics would be good cheers Nick

If its a no then I'm on to Peter's links & Nicks idea.

Stew, have never used mine in anger, laning or pnp, as I have not had a safe means of carrying it so its stayed in the garage.

However, have had cause to use someone else's in the middle of a pnp site when I popped a tyre off a rim. With the aid of said hi-lift, took the weight of the TJ whilst I used my compressor & successfully re-inflated the tyre, all under the supervision of experienced folks.

Seems daft if I have it not to carry it on trips so long as I can do it safely

Pictures Below :-

Overall view

Top Bracket

Bottom Bracket (have not gotten round to painting it)

They probably did not need to be 1/4" plate but it was all I had to hand.  They are secured with U Bolts around the roll bar.

Cheers

Well the job is done  8-)

Tried it in several positions including the diagonal approach but a flick through a 4WD catalogue scuppered that idea. might be having some saddle bags for the sides on my birthday list

More tea, sparks, bright blue flashes & head scratching resulted in the chief fabricator, now in need of a good back specialist & the loss of 12 months wear & tear out of the rear springs of the TJ & time to kick back for 15 mins or so for the quick drying paint to do what it said on the tin & the job was done.

Really sturdy fit, jobs a good un. No rattles or squeaks on the way home. There are easier & quicker places to securely fit a Hi-lift to your TJ, on the bonnet is a popular place apparently, but if you are special & have specific needs n wants it & would prefer it secured behind the front seats, therefore not taking up any rear load space, then I know of a couple of gents where this can be done

Will post up some pics later, when the boss lets me have her camera & finally it seems the sticker fairy has been at it again apparently

Glad you got it sorted eventually, looked at that position for mine but the bloody thing is too long to fit across the car.
