ZG A/C Evaporator Replacement
«

Nobody local seems to want the job of replacing the evaporator on a 98 GC (ZG), so am considering doing it myself.
Are there any other required/recommended tools for removal of the dash/evaporator apart from standard tools and the ac line disconnect tool?
My next question is sourcing the evaporator, any recommendations?
I found this one online
http://www.autoairconparts.co.uk/Evapor ... 47826.html
Or is the genuine part really worth the extra?
Thanks.

Have you taken it to an aircon specialist? Sounds odd that they don't want your money.
Personally, I wouldn't mess with refrigerant, it's bad shit.

It's a very time consuming job as the entire dash assembly has to come out, at current prices the labour cost atb many garages would be more than the value of your car, which is probably why they won't even quote.

Yes your probably right, the gas has already been removed. Not many places around here will touch a jeep for some reason, usually saying it needs some specialist tools that they haven't got. Although most times that's untrue.
My idea was to replace the evaporator then get the system checked/flushed/recommissioned at a garage. Time is not a problem at the moment.
So is there any experience of aftermarket evaporators, given that the genuine ones fail so often?
Thanks.

I think that you know just how good/ bad the oem kit is and since the non genuine part will most likely have been made in the same factory as the genuine part, I would happily fit the non genuine part.... All Chrysler products went through a patch of having dodgy evaporators, and having replaced quite a few Range Rover evaporators, I would rather eat my left leg than do another one... The Jeep too is a dash out job.. Other than what looks like springlock connectors there is no requirement for special tools but the job is time consuming and hense expensive.
