The hand throttle on my CJ is on the gearstick just below the knob!!!!

Useful for keeping it steady on the bumpy bits, Doing hill starts when you have a foot operated parking brake and driving home when your accellerator pedal arm has broken (takes co-ordination but possible! I know!!!!) :shock:

Guy's Wrangler at JeepFest ended up on its side in the lake coz of the hand throttle. Glasses fell on the floor and so he bent down to pick them up, as he came back up his arm nudged the hand throttle and he accelerated up a bank and rolled. His kids were in the back, fortunately they were all ok if a bit damp :shock:

if you wanted one the only safe place and reason for having one is under the bonnet to use as an aid to winching idea then is you open bonnet [an old jeepers trick to keep ocupants safe if cable broke [before plasma] and then use hand throtle to lift revs for winching but like i say i just dont like the idea

Wire it up to the winch output so that as you use the winch, it pushes the throttle up a bit to assist... Wouldn't be as good but would help... Saying that, it'd probably cost as much as a second battery

Sorry to hear about Guy's accident and glad no one was hurt...but, I dont think you should condem hand throttles based on that, he could just have just as easily put his foot on the throttle and caused the same accident. I drove my previous TJ around Marquenteere in France pretty much entirely on the hand throttle and had no problems whatsoever - its all about commonsence !

I'm a flash Git, got me one of these

Works great. Turn it on, set the rpm, and leave it there. Great for winching, jump starting dead vehicles, etc.

I don't use it for driving though. One benefit of being a left hooker is that i can stuff my foot into the transmission tunnel, reducing bounce.
