Red light on TJ
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:28:50 PM »

Hhhhmmm,

Fitted some new nerf bars this morning & took the TJ out for a test drive to make sure nothing fell off  :003:

Noticed that a small red light, located outside of the instrument cluster bottom right hand corner of the dash, was permanently illuminated. From memory I think it is the immobiliser light which flashes when the key is not in the ignition & goes out when the engine is running.

Now its on all the time, car seems to run OK. I did disconnect the battery last weekend a couple of times as some welding was being done in situ on the Jeep.

Any thoughts or advice welcome, biggest concern is that the imobiliser is gonna play up & the car stop.

Cheers

may sound silly but last time I had a dash warning light stay on, the bulb holder had fallen out and the dash illumination light was shining through it.

sometimes its the simple things that confuse us

I've had the immobiliser LED on my 97 TJ come on constantly after having the battery disconnected in the past. IIRC I think I may have just pressed and held down the immobilser off button on my keyfob, possibly with the ignition on, after which it's been normal.

When I have jet washed the crap out of the brakes thats making some nasty noises on the way home earlier, I think I'll disconnect the battery & see what happens.

Disconnected it before with no issues but IIRC the key was in the ignition this time, wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Haven't got an on / off button or seperate fob, just a key presumably with a built in thingy meebobs

It's fooked. Get shot of it before you perish in the burning wreckage.

Alternatively, ignore it. If yout TJ has SKIS, the may and Schofield unit is still installed but does not function as an immobiliser, just as the centre of the optional alarm upgrade.

Well fingers crossed it hasn't exploded just yet  :003:

Removed the front wheels tonight & jet washed a load of mud out of the brakes & removed countless jammed in stones all by torch light. Took it for a spin, now no more rattles, squeaks & nasty graunchy noises so now to fix the pesky red light issue.

Disconnected the battery for long enough to smoke a Benson, re connected & the bugger was still on permanently. Switched the ignition on & heh presto it went off.
Removed key & it starts flashing again like it used to, result. Must have confused it by leaving the key in the ignition when disconnecting it last week.

Sorry Dags, looks like its a keeper for a good while yet  :icon_jook:
