Anything other than an Xj or ZG will have a common rail diesel, which will not be happy on anything other than proper diesel fuel and are very costly to fix when they go bang.

Are you going to be actually making biodiesel or just pouring veg oil in the tank?

You best bet for maximum compatibility is a CJ-10 Tug with a Nissan SD-33 diesel  :icon_winkle:

Seriously though, as you know the VM 425OHV in the XJ is problematic, though there are
people on here who use veg oil in them. The 531OHV in the early WJs is in your price range
but has similar problems to the 425OHV.

If you're making real biodiesel, then you might get away with a common rail - the 2.7CRD
WJ would be in your price range.

Don't use veg oil in a common rail.

The secret is making sure your injection pump can get the lubrication it needs, as they use the fuel
to lubricate and not oil. Find out what injection pump is on the engine you're considering and
research whether it will run on biodiesel/veg oil (whatever you're making).

Anything with a Merc diesel in it from the 80's and before......... 500k life at least if looked after and run on anything with no probs.

One thing tho. I have driven a G wagen LWB 5 cylinder auto when new in 85 and it couldn't get away from itself.... tragically slow until 70 then that's the sweet spot. Felt like it would last forever and tow a house tho. Obviously wasn't impressed 'cos didn't buy. 3 difflocks tho!!!
Tested and looked at a SWB G wagen 6cylinder 1990 in the summer.... Same thing, last forever but had as much guts off the line as my 200k transit (now deceased) Black and shiny would not look good with scars and went for £4k or more on the bay.....mad.

Anyway great engines for running alt fuel and longevity..... went off topic there??

get an XJ and run it on pure veg oil,not used stuff,in the colder weather mix the oil with some diesel, being doing this for 4yrs now no probs, but good healthy glow plugs are a must.
