Aussie Locker in YJ Dana 30 /35
« on: February 21, 2010, 02:42:29 PM »

Hi,

I fitted an aussie locker to the front of my YJ last summer, excellent performance, thinking of fitting one to the rear, does anyone have any comments on on road driving?

Thanks in advance Maf

I read thru some  stuff on jeepforumn a few months ago maf and the view on there was to have a locker in the front but to leave the rear as it is,I think it just gives you better on road performance basically.

Thanks for the info, Wrangler doesn't do a great deal of road miles, use the Cherokee for lanes as much smaller and in the Wrangler it's too easy, prefer the challenge of driving a stock Jeep on 31" standard muds, the Wrangler has 34" swampers (sometimes 33" standard muds) if it's not too bad with a rear locker then I might go for it as the Wrangler will be mainly used for punch hunts, the front locker made a massive difference, giving more control and slower speeds needed for tight techinical sections... we have some great sites for punch hunts and they can get very sticky...

Fiited rear locker (Aussie Locker) and stronger shafts, on road completely fine, some clicking, that's all.

Off road, well the first thing you notice is how much slower you can go (also running front Aussie locker) even in 2wd the grip is amazing.

The control is amazing, this lane flips the front wheel up, I can sit gently on the throttle and lift and lower the front wheel on command, this means really slow crawl speeds for trickey tight lanes and punch hunts are now possible.

Getting more and more bashed up, dam these tight lanes we have here....

Long term I might remove the front one as people want me to go into the winched class for punch hunts, yeah lockers are awesome but they'll never out do a winch when your axle deep. If thats the case then will put front one in Cherokee, will see what happens.Good thing with 'lunchbox' lockers is there are no tell tail signs that you have lockers  :icon_winkle:
