Got the truck MOT'd yesterday and picked up this morning.

All good except that injector nbr. 5 is leaking, and that's the one you can hardly get at. 
It's the one at the rear of the head under the windscreen.

Long and short of it :

It will have to be dealt with because if gasses can come out air could get in and that's where it all starts going
tits up according to my mechanic.

If they can get it out it might be just a case of replacing a 'washer' and screwing it back in again ??

If the thing won't budge the head might have to come off and it remains to be seen what the condition of the thread is.

Any opinions on this from the technical department ??

Same here with the ML's have you the special tool? Makes life much easier.

Been reading on Jeep forums that they advised to drop the engine rather than taking the head off.

Any merit in that ??

i always got told the phrase "if you can see it you can change it", i did laugh at first but then it does ring true. been at the forefront of vehicles for many years and often working on them before service manuals were written. the best laugh was slating the design engineers who don't think of these things. Most of these stupid designs are not intentional due to the fact most of the design engineers dont talk to each other and arre afraid to speakup when issues like this arise. So they then design a "special tool" to solve the problem rather than creating a dent in the bulkhead to allow removal.

on the xj350 (big ally jag) there is a little control sensor on the bulkhead tunnel, when this fails the engine has to come out so it can be changed. The item is easier to change than the cps on the jeep since it clips into the loom and a small bolt to hold it in place. No one thought about the location until it was too late so they left it. Now it is a common fault for engines not working. Left hand not talking to right hand

I will probably have to explain to my 'non-jeep' mechanic how to do this job.

Apart from what is decribed on difflock :

Would anybody know how I can get my hands on a 'how-to' so I can discuss with him ?

What bits to disconnect before the engine can drop etc....IOM mentioned special tools.....anything else ?

Might also save on cost if he's got a guide rather than fuck around for a couple of hours before he finds out what to do.

you dont realy need to be a jeep mechanic to work out how to drop the rear of an engine and gearbox. the special tools IOM refer to are specially made sockets or spanners designed to fit into tight spaces.
