let here from the vegi birner out there.

i beeb running on pure veg oil for 4 years with my 2.5td cherokee 1998 facelift,no probs,though i had to change out the heater plugs this year,but htey were the originals,there difference in starting on cold mornings was night and day,minus 14c bit of a cough but after 5/10 mins ran sweet as a nut,no sign of geling in the tank either,though i did mix with  about a gallon of derv during the cold snap.

gettng 20 ltr driums here in glasgow for about 0.70p per ltr,big saving.

worth a try,derv is sky high just now and going to get worse at 1.16.9 here in glasgow.scandle.....

come on,there must be more of you out there running on the veg,or are you all just chicken to tell!!!!!!!

remember you get 2500ltrs a year vat free for fuel,that a massive saving,derv today up here in glasgow  £1.20.9 per ltr

i nearly cried,the laughed as i drove past and filled up for 0.83p per ltr from tesco at about £2.50 per 3 ltr bottles

£15 for 18 ltrs,work it out!!!! ......then work it out over a year,,,,got your attention now!!!!!!!! 20 ltr drum from costco=££17.00 approx...around 0.70p per ltr.

can you afford not to give it a try,even diesels are starting to cost a bomb to run,so come on over,the grass is greener.

Remember to temper your unrequainted enthusiam with a few ifs and buts. Most engines are unsuitable
for it and will sustain expensive damage. Yours works great, and a few other members also have good luck
with it in diesel XJs. However, anyone considering it needs to weigh up the risks of damaging the engine,
the inconvenience etc and make their own decision.

Also remember that a recommendation by a member is not the opinion of the club (read: we didn't tell you
to put chip fat in your fuel tank if you break it).

got to say the welsh thing scraes me - might stop using it - well have at the minute as it is fecked

hahahah,this is funny,4 years on the veg and never missed a beat,yes newer cars with fancy fuel mapping could be damaged,but bosch pumps on older diesels are ideal,but check on the net first,loads of info out there.

oh and vegi burner are mean!with the price of petrol and derv in the uk just now ,£5.00 does not even get you a gallon(open your eyes next time you fill up and look at the pump reading)and over the next few month prices expected to hit £1.30 a ltr you will be able to spot someone running there jeep on normal petrol and derv a mile away,they will be dressed like a tramp....

this summer,,,got a diesel xj,,,get down the tesco or cosco and fill the tank,,,save a fortune...but remember dont put used cooking oil in as that needs to be treated and cleaned first,just get the stuff out the supermarket and pop it in with a gallon of derv and away you go....simples,,oh make sure your heater plugs are up to scratch,the flash point of veg oil is higher,so you need good plugs.

Also consider (as it's earth day), that the more vegetable oil we use in your vehicles, the more
the price of food will rise. There's only a certain amount of land available to farm, and using it
for oil seed rape and corn pushes up the price of wheat and other grains. You're gonna pay for it
one way or another.

very true about the food prices,but every time those boss hoggs from the oil companies push up the price of oil that has a direct impact on the price of food,truck companies over in europe are sick and tired of trying to get tax credits on there fuel,there uk govement is just not listening and so haulage firms are just passing the massive rise in fuel direct onto the there customers,any firm that make food needs to get it sent out to its outlets,and they have no choice but to pass this onto the cost of there product,its the price of fuel that pushed up food prices by more than 30% in the last 3yrs,not a handful of  people driving there jeeps around on vegi oil.

but like you say,mass production of bio fuel would have a effect on food prices,many farmers ae now growing rape seed and soya,sunflower and other plants to be pressed and made into bio diesel,some farms have bio diesel reactors on site,then they are selling this onto bus and rail companies,to be used  in diesel engines for more than they would get from selling it to a food company for cooking oil.

got that off my chest,but i cant see me and a few thousand other make a world impact of food prices,but i can see mass production of B100 bio diesel all over the world having an effect if its made from fresh seed,making it from old used cooking oils like some firms around here is another matter.
just filled ma cherokee xj to the brim with sunflower oil today,at pump prices i reckon i have save around £30 on a full tank,local pump price £1.20.9,,,local oil price £0.83,,,and i could have got this down to £0.70 per ltr if i wanted,but that would have ment a trip into the city.

I'd make the most of those low prices. Read yesterday that while GM and Ford are investing heavily in
hybrids, Chrysler (via Fiat) are investing in biodiesel. Much of Europe is already heavily into biodiesel,
and this will only increase, pushing the prices up.

hi i have a 51 plate grand cherokee 3.1td would veggie oil be ok on this model,also do you have to do any thing with it and do you use vetable oil thanks peter

That's a question you need to answer yourself. If it goes wrong you're looking at a very steep bill and
much animosity towards another member. Do lots of research. I heard of some guy in Wolverhampton
running veg oil in a 3.1 when I had my 3.1TD, but he used a preheater.

dont know anything about the 3.1,do you know if it has a bosch pump,if so it could be looking good,i seen a grand on a website that was running with kit fitted,the kits starts and warms up on diesel and then changes over to veg after warm up,its swings and roundabouts,you can buy pre heater kits,but i never bothered on my 1998 2.5td cherokee.

look on the net for more info,there is loads out there and look on youtube,try vegiburners website,there are many more website on this subject.

but look at how pre heaters work,i dont see any point in fitting a heat exchanger type the heats from the engine water system,running with out one will produce the same result,the oil is pumped up to the injector pipes and injectors,once the car has warmed up,and my cherokee warms up fast from cold,the amount of time the oil is held in the fuel line it will more than likely be running as thin diesel anyway in a warm engine.

best rule is always add a few gal of diesel in a tank.

4 years,55k miles,runs sweet as a nut every day all on 100% vegi oil or vegi oil derv mix

please note i also ran on bio diesel,this stuff is known in the trade a B100,its pure bio and is more or less the same volosity as diesel,it also cheaper to buy than diesel at more often than not £0.20 on average less than a ltr of derv,its good stuff if you can find  suppliers,even better if they deliver to your door/garage in 50 gal drums,this can be a big saving,there is sometimes a deposit for the drum that you get back on your next order,,,look on the net for local dealers.
