J series fender flares.

Anyone interested in a set made from GRP?

I've concluded one set of mine are almost beyond plating/welding.

Seriously thinking about making GRP moulds and knocking a few sets out in GRP.

Some guy in the US is thinking of making them in the correct gauge of steel $600 + shipping + import duty  :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

I think GRP is better option, just thinking if I could sell a few sets it would cover the costs.

Was just gonna try to replicate the rusty tin ones to start with.

Bigger/wider but still factory looking would be a good move though :017:

Bigger/wider but still factory looking would be a good move though :017:

to cover my tyres 90% im lookin at about 5-6" wider than stock

how flexible is GRP (im guessin not at all)

Flexible enough..... easier to repair too. Going that way with the Chief methinks..... my steel fenders are cheesy looking.....

repair the O.E then make the mold and see how you get on. The first one out of the mold normally isn't perfect, then you learn the fine art of GRP

It aint gonna happen overnite BD!
I got two perfect front wings to make moulds from and one good rear arch.
Other rear arch will have to be plated/fillered first.
Looks like complete front wings AND separate widetrack arches on the menu.
Maybe the apron panels between the wings and screen too, 'cos these always seem to be rotted from inside.

Never worked with GRP before so this will be a learing curve, but it has to be done.

if i was you i would just practice by sortin out my flares first, im willing to be a good buddy and let u guinea pig me, that way u will be ready to knock out perfect stuff for yourself, obvious innit  :017:

Well since leaving the "rolling" chassis I bought off you on wooden blocks last week so I could whip the wheels off it.

I been having thoughts of making up oversize fenders out of GRP, and reworking the (rear) inner wings to suit.

Then we could run 33/35 tyres on a small amount of lift.

Only a pipedream so far but I'm thinking it could be done subtly so the Chief or Pickup would still look factory built.

Incidentally the rot box I viewed at Stoke, had aftermarket replacement widetrack flares (in GRP) fitted at the rear.
These were bought from the U S at some considerable expense apparently
