This being the first day of summer, I'm hoping to be driving doors off and screen folded at some point.

Anyone know the exact law on eye protection with no windscreen?

I do believe plod can nick you if you aint got none.

Do ya need BSI or E marked googles or will cool looking sunglasses (even though they make yer eyes water worse) do the trick?

OK this may have changed in the 10 years since i rode my trike but as I understood there is no requirement to wear eye protection BUT if you don't your a pratt, I had a fly strike at 70 and it fucking hurts. Get a good pair of glasses that fit you, it will be worth it in the long run, bought a pair of Oakley Fat Boys must be 6 years ago, OK they cost 100 quid but still going good and no wind leakage

there is no requirement for eye protection when driving or riding on a bike. If eye protection i.e a visor or a windscreen is used then it has to meet preset impact stds. Sunglasses don't need to meet impact stds. Riding or driving along with no sunglasses or windcsreen is great but you can't see much due to your eyes streaming with water. When that fly or bumble bee flys into your path there is a 99% chance it will hit you on your face and hurt you.

you can get glasses with a foam surround to reduce the watering effect from the eyes. these can be in the conventional style or the ski style strap round the backl of the head. I would look at buying a set that comes with the anti shatter lenses so if that small stone gets kicked up your eyes are better protected than normal glasses.

The british standard for vehicle use goggles/sunglasses is BS 4110 which covers above the standard for general sunglasses...
    * Luminous transmittance
    * Recognition of traffic signals

Even if sunglasses only transmitted black and white I'd still know the top light was red! Sunglasses for vehicle use must transmit at least 50% of visible light. I used to have Oakleys that had 18% transmittance. They were illegal but great for driving in bright light.

I have recently started using sunglasses (Aldi) with a foam insert with the top down. The arms can be removed and replaced with a strap. They are fantastic and worth the £8. You can feel the wind blowing about around your eyes but you're not blinking and getting shit in your eye all the time as you do with normal sunglasses. Three different lens shades to choose from too.

no policeman will enforce this legislation as they are removable and can be put back on 5 mins after being asked to remove them. If driving without a windshield shatterproof or impact resistance glasses would be ontop of my list.   If you can't work out traffic lights then you shouldn't have a licence but there again that must cover most drivers now given the amount i see most days jumping red lights
