bit of advice please, I have noticed a leak from the body of the fuel pump (not where it joins onto the block or where the pipes attach) so here my question, do I....

a, fit a rebuild kit (if there is such a thing)
b, buy a new pump
c, try and find a used pump
d, convert to electric pump

The one on my black cherokee aint lifting fuel either.

Guage is reading half full, but that could be well dodgy.

Assuming the worst, where the cheapest place for a new pump?

so you wouldn't recommend an after market performance electric pump, if not, other than cost, why?

OK think I have made temp fix,

was leaking from hole circled so tapped it and put a bolt in with sealant, so far no leak but a good run out tomorrow should test it

Is the hole not there as a vent for the diaphram within?? (? long day, spelling way off), allowing it to move free? , and would blocking it off not create a build up of pressure, and reduce the pressure created by the pump

?? I would think anything leaking from sed hole would mean the diaphram is split or splitting ?

your probaly right, but as i said its a temp fix, and as long as it lasts the weekend i'll order a new one from lighthouse on monday

the electric fuel pump is ok but either you buy one that gives the same fuel pressure/rate or you spend a little more and buy the adjustable variety. pbvously you will need a return back to the tank for the overfuelling at idle unless you develope a variable controlled electric pump

I did once fit a electric pump to one of the sammies I had cos they fuel diaphram split, it came of a daihatsu mini van and only pumps at low pressure so Ideal for a carb, just took the power feed from the switched positive off the coil.

I prefer the simplicity of a mechanical pump.

Pity AMC used a sealed unit otherwise you'd only be talking pennies for a new diaphragm

found another fuel leak today, the rubber connector tubes where the fuel return pipes fix to the tank had perished, 5 min fix, all sorted now

I ran some twin carbs on an old golf, had an electric pump at the tank and a fuel pressure regulator, with saftey valve/return on the bulk head... dont think they where too expensive, from some motor discount shop i think ?

Hope you made sure that the first leak hasnt just been diverted into your sump!
Could cause costly repairs when you oil turns into SAE Zero with an octane rating.

good call, did oil change last week and just checked and it does seem a bit thin but it don't smell of petrol yet. good news is I have money to order pump now so will tomorrow and fit asap

started to panic at 11.30 when there was no sign of the pump, just as well as it had been delivered to the wrong address. anyway managed to get it here just after 12 and fitted by 1.00

just oil change to do after it has been warmed up

got to add lighthouse were great with helping chase the couriers
