cherokee 2.5 td
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:10:33 PM »

Hi

Seem to have an oil leak from somewhere down the back of engine can not locate exactly where, this was dripping quite a lot but then stopped, I checked the oil and was down to just above bottom marker so topped up. Leak started again, could it be a breather problem or am I looking at some thing worse, any help appreciated.

Cheers

Check the thin metal pipe that feeds oil pressure to the cylinder heads.

Rear main seal is a bit of a sod to do. Box out and all. Also, the seal is only available from Jeep, and is somewhere around the £50 mark!

Are you sure it's leaking oil? Mine had an oil like substance round the bottom of the box, turned out it was actually the power steering pipes that were leaking fluid all over the engine bay.

If it's the power steering pipes, good luck getting hold of a new set! I ended up spending a couple of hours in the workshop with a friendly local hydraulic expert to get them sorted!
