sloppy cj brake caliper
« on: August 25, 2010, 11:27:28 PM »

Anyone know of a fix for the slop in my brake caliper mount or is it time for a new one.I thought id read about someone welding the bracket and grinding it back to take up the wear but i could of dreamt it i suppose.

Ive been quoted £65 for the bracket and £52 for a remanufactured caliper from lighthouse plus the vat and carriage :banghead:

Yup read that too :icon_super:

The weldy/grindy to the bracket to get rid of grooves that stop caliper sliding bit..... apparently it works.

nope believe or not on that photo the spring and wedge are all there and on that side i can push the wedge in with my finger whereas the other side i have to punch it in.

Im pinching the scrambler one for now and might try and get it welded up and see what happens will let you know :greggmo:

Fixed it with just the bracket from the scrambler, the caliper must be made of much tougher stuff than the bracket.

Probably not wise to weld the bracket as the weld would be harder than the caliper and presumably cause that to wear instead it may start a never ending cycle of wearing out and welding it up  :banghead:
