OME suspension

Having acquired a 97 XJ I'm planning to give the suspension a change. There's no major probs on said Jeep but I'm informed they ride better on and off ze black stuff so am tempted. The kit gives a 2" and I can run heavy duty springs which will aid with the load carrying it'll do. Doesn't look too hard a job probably 2 days for me I'd guess as I work slowly but has anyone here used thier stuff and if so what has it been like?

Any other recommended alternatives - I don't want more than 2" as the car needs to retain some road comfort also.Oh yeah and the rear leaf springs are doing the classic jeep sag so whatever I do they will need changing in the nxt 12 months or anyway :)

If you want good road manners too, then also consider a Rubicon Express lift.
The XJ 3" kit rides nice.

Who sells it over here...looks interesting and then i will start thinking 31" tyres...oh here I go again lol...but its been a few years lol

I had OME on my XJ at an earlier stage - very nice, definitely recommended. 2" of lift is on the low side for 31" tyres but could be made to work.

I'd not go 31's with the OME, it was the 3.5 on the Rubicon Express that got me thinking in those terms. With the OME it'd need to be a bit smaller I think thus savings me a little money. The two are neck and neck in my thinking though at the moment.  :icon_biggrin:

Frogs Island supplied & fitted our OME lift on the TJ a couple of years ago  :icon_winkle:

The proprietor of MJS will no doubt give the full technical explanation but suffice to say, the 2 nuts in the middle had been "done up" to the male top bolt fitting as oppossed to the female receiving bottom half & had therefore allowed the damned things to twist with the thread.

Upshot was they were trying to pull apart at the bushes. Now bolted up to correct end & are straight  :icon_winkle:

I think I'll be using Surrey Off Road now as wrecked my knee and therefore clambering about under a Jeep is not a very easy prospect for the next few months. They won out over FTE as they are close (15 miles) as opposed to Essex. Chris at Surrey reckoned 5 hours labour which sounds fair to me but what do you chaps think?

I'll be going the OME kit route, any pitfalls to watch out for that I should know about? As el Jeep will lug lots of camp gear and so on I plan on the heavy duty springs - assume these will be ok for tarmac without being too harsh? I'll assume they will be ok on muddy slippery stuff also :).

Hmm what else  OME shocks (it all seems to come as a kit) versus others?

And lastly, with only a 2" lift is anything else needed to eg. adjustment to the transmission to stop vibration from ze drive line. Everything I've read says up to 3" don't worry but again I'll listen to experience if peeps know.  :icon_super: Edit, kit comes with transfer case lowering kit so that one is answered :)

I'll talk it over with the men in Dunsfold but just wondered what folks on here who have used them actually think. Ta :)

we've got  a 2" OME kit on the purple XJ, she  rides very schmooove, highly recomend the stuff :greggmo: :greggmo: :greggmo:

I added an OME add-a-leaf to each of my medium duty springs. It made a difference with the extra weight of my LPG conversion. The heavy duty springs have a stiff overload leaf that stops the springs sagging down too far. Chris at Surrey Off-road will discuss it with you if you ask I'm sure. No driveline issue at 2" lift (3" is much to worry abour either).

Part of me wants to wait for the knee to settle and do it meself the other part want to get it done regardless. I keep changing my mind lol
