Thermostat for 2.8 CRD - what temperature and where to buy?
« on: December 12, 2010, 08:54:07 PM »

In an earlier thread I asked for advice about the inordinate length of time it takes my 2.8 CRD Cherokee to warm up and the general consensus seemed to be that the thermostat needs to be replaced. So I thought I'd start a new thread to seek information about what options, if any, there are for replacement T-stats. There are numerous threads on the subject on the US LOST forum, and elsewhere, many of them discussing how to convert the Jeep T-stat from 176F/80C to 192F/88C. Our cousins across the pond seem to think that in the UK a 192F/88C T-stat is available compared to the 176F/80C in the US. Is this correct? And if I'm going to buy a replacement, are there any discount suppliers in the UK as the regular Jeep dealer price is pretty steep?

Ordinarily I'd agree, but this seems to be only available from Jeep or presumably other Chrysler brands that used the 2.8 CRD engine as it's a seemingly substantial casting with the actual thermostat integrated into it. Not the good old throw away thermostat we used to have in the good old days. And I'm too far away from a local motor factor to easily check - that's why I was hoping some UK member might be able to say for certain where is the best place to get one.

P.S. I just checked the Quinton Hazell on line catalogue and they don't list the 2.8 CRD. They do, however, list the 2.5 CRD - is it the same thermostat?

Not cheap, is it? But Has to be worth trying some motor factors as the Jeep price is around 130 quid. Something to do next week when I'm home!

Checked my local motor factors and found it was cheaper to buy from my local Jeep dealer. They didn't have them in stock but I ordered one, with gasket, for £103 including VAT. Now all I have to do is find someone to fit it!
