XJ - Brakes locking when first started?
« on: January 04, 2011, 11:47:43 AM »

Usually much worse in 2WD but has been doing it last few days in 4WD too.  When first started, my XJ locks its rear brakes with only light pressure on the pedal.

It stops after a few uses but its a bit of a pain.  Is there any reason for this?  Seem to remember my previous XJ did it too.

yours is cos the the Mg leaves rust on the discs that takes a few revolutions to clear off BD and being a rover it creates rust faster than the average italian car.
not sure about the cherry's but I had a similar thing that used to happen to mine never found out the problem.

Thats exactly like mine.  With fuel going up and my waste line expanding I've been walking alot so the Jeep has stood around a bit.  Plus as you says its worse in the rain.

It's very common, more so on earlier XJs without ABS. Take the drums off, clean out all the crap and adjudt the brakes properly. This will reduce the problem. Later models had revised wheel cylinders and grooved brake shoes to eliminate the problem.

Mines a 99 Orvis.

Will add this to the "to do" list.

While I'm about it, my drivers door interior light/buzzer switch has stopped working - where can I pick one up?

Get one from the dealers, there cheap enough. Had to replace one on ours as it stuck, shorted & drained the battery  :banghead: :banghead:
