Any DTCs?
Turn the ignition key until the digital odometer displays, repeat three times in succession and then back to "On" (On/Off, On/Off, On/Off, On). At the fourth "On" the odometer will be replaced with codes. If no codes are present then "Done" will appear.

Hmm. Read this http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_can_you_read_engine_malfunction_codes_on_a_2003_Jeep_Liberty_without_a_scannerOr buy a scanner. Mine was $22 from Amazon. Your best bet would be to ask on lostkjs.com
If it follows US rules, then the ODBII port is within 6 inches of the steering column. Usually between the bottomof the dash and the pedals. The codes are here http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm

Or you could press the speedo's trip meter, the one that resets the trip (not swimming trunks ), and switch on ignition and watch the lights and speedo go through it's self check, and after mileage has done it's bit, you could also be left with a code.

This allows checking of the gauges and cluster controlled lamps. Hard wired lamps like 4wd and handbrake need to be tested manually. Newer clusters will display SOF and a number which is the cluster software version. Any codes displayed will be cluster related and not Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) codes.
If it cranks, fires up almost immediately on all cylinders, runs for a second or two, then stops, it's possibly a SKIS failure. Try your spare key.
possibly air still in the system, if you bleed at the injectors, you should be ok, might be a plan to check (if it has one) the fuel pump relay, mine got weak/intermittant/wet in my tj and produced very similar symptoms, fortunately my horn relay was the same, (micro relay) which i swapped to get me out of le poopoo, quite literally
Get it to a diesel specialist with the right kit to read the fuel pressure.
