Flywheel/clutch for AMC 360
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:09:34 AM »

Can anyone tell me what to look for when purchasing a flywheel/clutch (manual) for a AMC 360, are there specific ones or will any AMC flywheel/clutch combo work, heard something about externally balanced system etc etc. Any help would be apreciated

i think i have such a thing but any flywheel from a amc 6 or 8 cylinder engine will fit the vibe you refer to is poss due to the engines being balenced from the front by the rubberised harmonic damper
the truth out in the world is mostly there is no vibration and if there is its barely noticed and happens at 700 1100 rpm and feels like there might be a misfire that is not there
the answer if you are worrysome person is to get an engine shop to balance and face it

Very true, but I have also got a manual box as well that I sourced elsewhere, that comes with the flywheel and clutch.

Novac specificly say not to mix and match the AMC flywheels, why would they say this if its not a significant problem? I could get the flywheel match balanced with the flexplate off the original? Problem is I've got access to and AMC 6 flywheel with the purchasing of my manual box, question is it worth taking or am I better to find an actual AMC 360 one?

i have no idea but would be interested to know why they are so against using the i6 i have happily swapped flywheels and flexplates with each other sometimes in the same jeep

were it as simple to get hold of the recommended parts as in the states them i would have just popped to my local parts place or junkyard

sometimes you can get almost too much info on a subject and it can be a bit confusing

i like both   i have headers on one and the other cj8 will shortly go v8 with cast and sort of factory ish system but have run both over the years  headers do help it breath but no real effect power wise till you get over 1500 rpm cast i feel gives smooth torque  i am sure sombody will quote a lot of facts sprinkled with guff but thats my own findings in the field

the tube headers i have at the moment will be spare soon, should get the engine swap done in a few weeks and will be giving Kev back his fewnderwells and I'm thinking of getting cast or shorty headers so i can run the pipes inboard of the chassis rails this time, last time I ran the CJ off road it lost both side pipes over the weekend
