Steam coming from air vents?
« on: February 20, 2011, 03:46:45 PM »

Just started the jeep and put the fan on hot and steam or something like that was coming through the vents then when fan is switched off seems ok on cold? There was a small leak under the jeep as well this morning not sure if it was water or coolant.

May have been water vapour from the A/C. Happens on aircraft a lot with changes in humidity and temperature.

Evaporator has gone. No more aircon unless you you want to spend a day removing the whole dash.

Bugger. Never used it anyway. How do I stop the oil or gas coming through the vents?
Thanks.

The refrigerant will have gone, its heavier than air,and if your jeep is like mine, it won't be anywhere near air tight so you are not at risk from asphyxiation, not that it would have that quantity anyhow, the oil is a different problem, other than chucking some cat litter down your air vents, I suspect there is little you can do to get rid of it
