Cherokee 2.5 TD Sport. MANY PROBLEMS
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:18:19 PM »

Hi all, Further to my recent problems,I now have another. :icon_sad:
Had a new battery fitted yesterday, and got it started by joining the clutch down switch wires. (clutch has disintergrated by the sound of it when you try to operate it with the engine running - awaiting new clutch.
Having parked up for the night the wife informed me this morning that the interior lights were on, and the battery nearly flat.
Having no user manual for info, I pressed and pulled every switch and ignition setting I could find.
No luck so I've disconnected the battery!
It is surely my lack of knowledge causing most of these problems, but I can't locate a user manual for this model.
Maybe one of the lads can steer me in the right direction.

You're lucky, mine still come on of there own now and again :017:, that's with them switched off on the stalk, that's why i carry jump leads with me all the time, also got one of those jumper start packs, 900 amp jobby just in case, never had to use it yet, only the air commpresser to do the tyres.

Even when i am driving at night, i like having the dash lights down to the lowest, and once in a while all the dash lights will flash up bright as if i have turned them up on the stalk, only for a couple of seconds tho', but its like everything Jeep, you get used to it's little quirks.. :003:

Thanks for all the replies and help.
I've just been quoted £440.00 inclusive to have my clutch replaced. That includes collection and delivery to my home address.(about 5 miles each way).Does that sound reasonable? Us pensioners are easily ripped off!! :wsmile:

I  have a feeling i may have asked this before.... but how come your Cherokee has to be started with the clutch down..... mine starts without pressing the clutch...not easily it has to be said , in this cold Polish weather...

If my dim memory serves me well , i think this subject of the switch preventing the engine from starting came up when my Jeep was not starting , in fact i went looking for this switch as a possible reason my Jeep would not start , but did not find it , then somebody mentioned it was only fitted to Auto box Jeeps in the USA....

My problem turned out to be just a blown fuse , but i am interested to know if all 2.5 diesal Jeeps with manual boxes in the UK are supposed to have this silly switch...?

it's to stop the americans suing the manufacturer when they start the jeep/car in gear and hit a pedestrian when it lurches forward and starts
