Anyone thinking of saving money by importing a heater matrix from the States, do your homework first.
My ZJ heater matrix gave up the ghost a few years ago.
Not a problem during the summer as I just looped the input/out from the engine block.
As winter approached I thought I'd better it sorted.
The first shock was the cost, but my local garage said they could do it, 7 hours at £35.00/hour.
Secondly was the cost of the matrix from Jeep.
Thinking I'd get one over on the Jeep dealer, I found one from a supplier in Texas.
Shipping included came to under £70 which was half what the Jeep dealer wanted.
Supplied it to my local garage.
Got a phone call from the garage next day saying there was a problem, my first thoughts were the Texas supplier had sent one for a another car.
It was simpler than that, it was a left hand drive car.
Although it fitted, the feedpipes fouled the steering column, which they wouldn't have done on a LHD.
It never occured to me to ask, I assumed they were universal.
The garage owner was not a happy bunny as he'd planned to do all this in a day.
The only saving grace was that it matrix is all copper so he arranged with a local radiator repair company to re-core it.
This may well be the same for other models, so check first.
