I want to fit a snorkel to my Cherokee diesel but the airflow ones cost £250-300 new. Are there any other snorkels (for other brands) that will fit, maybe the one for landcruiser 90? There are cheaper copies of the airflow made in Malaysia and China that can be bought for half the price, but none specifically for the XJ diesel.

Airflow are the only maker of snorkels for the diesel. The petrol version is on the wrong side of the Jeep, the only way to use one would be to run a long hose around the engine bay to the nearside but I couldn't say how practical this would be.

There are lots of snorkels that go on the right side so I thought there must be one for another type of car that might fit after a little bit of modding. I believe a snorkel for the Landcruiser 90 might fit Anyone who has a clue???

I will have some Land Cruiser 90 snorkels in about 8 weeks, I can have a look then.

on the internet there are threads on routing the air intake internally rather than the conventional style through the wing and upto the roof line. the diesel has a cannister filter rather than a flat filter fitted to the petrol. so a sealed tube can be fabricated to fit and routed to where you want it away from the front of the vehicle where water ingress can be an issue.

do you intend on driving through deep water all the time, or is it for style issue.

I have no intention to turn my jeep into a submarine but would like to have the air intake high due to dust when driving on dirt roads behind someone else. Routing the air intake higher in the engine compartment won't help.

if dust is your issue raising the intake is an expensive way to get minimal results, your better off with a multi stage filter

without this going the wrong way, i have gone down the same line of thought you are having after my previous jeep was vm powered. you have very little choice apart from bastadising something which at the end looks rough. you have very little on the market to choose from as the diesel jeep isn't that popular. just route the intake away from the front and add a pre filter is the simplist and cheapest option for instant result

Thanks for the input guys. I've thought of making a snorkel like that but it will almost become as expensive as buying a china snorkel, and it won't look as good. The idea of adding a pre-filter is good one, I'll do that if I cant find a cheap snorkel that will fit. Dave69, I have to admit the snorkel is for style as well
