Has anyone ever had a disc break on them?

yep, on my audi quattro, stopping for a copper turning right, luckily (sort of) the right disk sheared off and the car pulled left and I just missed running into the back of the cop car

ive seen disks shatter but not a failed hub like that

Only on a Harley................I used metal sintered pads and the disc overheated and split right across............ POS crap useless tractor.........

That's more hub failure metal fatigue type of thing...............

Think I've been reasonably lucky in the sense that it didn't fail on the road at speed. I was moving the jeep around so that I could get easy access to both sides and noticed it then, definitely wasn't an issue the last time I drove it. Having said that where it has failed I can't see any new metal so looks like it started some time ago

How would that ever fail on YOUR Jeep, on a road and at speed?
Looks like it could be a defect in manufacturing rather than abuse related. Are these the discs supplied by Dynatrack? Strongly worded email could be in order!

wow... what are you trying to imply? 

Email sent and apology received, unfortunately like most warranties perishables (ie brake pads/disks) are not covered especially after 5+ years. I was offered a set half price as sorta compensation.... however after factoring in shipping I'm still better off sourcing locally and getting the discs re-drilled for my 5.5.5 bolt pattern....

should have it back on the road by the weekend

get some from lighthouse ( in suppliers) wont need re-drilling then and offsets etc will be correct

oops didnt see they were exploder rear discs.

in that case something on your conversion does'nt seem right for that failure

nothing wrong with the conversion... its been fine for 5+ years, looking at it I suspect like Tragic says, some form of manufacturing fault

just check it all out dood, not seen failures like that before and remember these things are there to stop you in an emergency

never seen a fail like that seen a few explode or break up but not seperate  maybe you are extra good at breakin stuff

will have a check when I fit the new discs.  Having had a chat about in the pub  the only thing we can come up with, which possibly would make it fail like would be if the wheel lugs were over tightened last time, they were really tight when I was taking them off this time and I needed my extension pole.... which I don't normally use. 

My wheels do have 2 slight ridges (inner and outer) that when put on the disc match up to its face.... these are meant to be there and are part of the design, you can tell that by looking at it, but if the lugs were over tightened it would put extra pressure on the disc surface

when we got mandas tj the front discs where fractured almost all the way round in the place where yours have failed. maybe down to manufacture or massive over heat.

yes i have seen it happen with brand new discs,get cast discs,i think composite discs have a weld seam and this is what fails,cast discs i am told do not warp also.

make sure the calipers are not binding and causing alot of heat in the disc,take it for a drive and stop,put your hand on the wheel and see if there very hot...a good clean with a pressure washer can free them up sometimes other than that you may need to take them off and have a closer look.


this is scary,if that happened at high speed,will you know.
