my aerial is broke like most, I would like to replace with non electric has anyone done this and what did they use, ie was it a ebay one which one?, I'm just worried about the way its mounted on the wing.

also how do you remove old one

most high street shops will have a selection of manual aerials just find one with a wing mount bezel that is close to the one you have, they have a range of adjustment so as long as its close it will fit

unless it has been snapped off you should be able to get it to work - I've fixed all "broken ones" in the past - about half a dozen

 I have original YJ aerial that I took off mine last year........Couldn't hear the radio anyway with half doors.

Bolts into hole in offside panel behind flare and has coaxial still attached..........Shout if you want it.

the hardest bit is getting the fixings undone in the wheel arch as they most likely be coroded. other than that its' a simple take out and swap for new. fitting through the grommet could be fiddley.

An alternative would be to fit an interior windscreen mounted aerial.  Not as good as an external one, but a lot easier to install (just leave the existing one in place.

I'm assuming you've tried wd40 (or similar) to lubricate the old aerial.

i tried the amplified windscreen version and they are totally cr@p, very poor reception so used the old coat hanger until i sourced a correct fitment. Yes the coat hanger worked better than the windscreen type.

the mast is completely gone, just a bit of wire is left, would the one of a YJ fit the XJ that wildwood mentions

I've just bought one of those internal antenna's, it came with no instructions at all, has anyone fitted one before and if so how do you fit and where to you connect the power 12v line too, help pls

Well I took off the plastic cover at front of windscreen, covers blower, then took out the radio.

I was able to fit aerial to bottem left of windscreen, and earth it to the body by a bolt there, there was plenty of room to route cable down by heater blower and be able to reach in for connector, also my radio had a output for 'cell phone mute' no idea what voltage but I guess it couldent be more than 12v so I attached the 12v line to that and it works as good as I expected for a cheap int aerial.
