i need a track bar for my Cherokee,but i am torn between allparts or crown,the crown bar is more expensive but is it any better than the allparts replacement.

any thoughts welcome,,need to order this soon for MOT.

if antone has a good secondhand trackbar that would do a 98 2.5td Cherokee i would be clad to here from you also as long as the body/chassis stud end was ok and solid.

never had a problem with Crown parts, fitted lots

check the usual XJ breakers on here, the smiths etc, they may have a good one for sale

the only problem i have with crown parts is the TRE boots fail within days. O.E boots last forever but then they aren't cheap either

i have a local importer of us auto parts goign to have look for me,would be ideal as he is just down the road,will see what price he comes up with,i have a poly kit for the track bar and that inc a new poly boot for the chassis stud,so we should be good to go if the price is right,cheapest so far was allparts at £89.99 plus £7.50 postage.

how the hell cant you press this stud out and fit another of a similar size,seems strange.

You can get poly boots to replace the rubber ones when they go

heard bad things about the poly boots, yes that are stronger but if and when they do get stressed they can loose the retaining bead,

importer could not get me one,well he could but only for a lhd,so no use,will try some scrap yards where i know there are some laying and see if i can get one off without popping the stud joint or wrecking the thread,though we could re tap it.


other than that its a new one,and change the bushes to poly before fitting.

sourced a good secondhand one,will stick that on and see how it goes,once that fails it will be a new one if the car is still on the road,its getting a bit long on the tooth at 13 years old now.

do you reckon,was just looking underneath it and that winter looks as if it took its tole,will have to paint and underseal rear end this summer to keep rust at bay,the winter also hammered my shockers,the front are only 3 years old and starting to bounce a bit,back shockers are on there way out,think it will be a cheap set of Monroe,s this time.,,heater matrix is leaking,radseal seemed to take care of that but dash may come out this summer and fit a new matrix,there cheap enough,re do the who front end bushes etc and she will be ok,cant stand sloppy steering in any car never mind a jeep.

other than that,yes if i keep on top of it she will last a good few years more

bought an allparts trackbar becasue it was cheaper,supplier sent me a crown parts trackbar that was around £30 plus more expencive at listed prices,so won a watch.

just got to get his old one off,hard to get into at the chassis mount with out dropping steering and tracking bars,,Mmm! what about just getting in there with the angle grinder straight through the stud mount and just knock the rest of the stud mount  up and out,no this wont work as these stud/ball joint mounts are flared wider at there base at they not,so may not go up through the hole.

any idea,s ,,it looks a 10 min job if i could just get into it and tweek that castle nut off then split it away.

cant get he castle nut off,not a lot of room under there. the castle nut is 19mm i believe,but my new 19mm 12 point socket just rotates on the nut,a smaller socket seems to fit but afer a week of soaking and a fare bit of heat,it wont budge.

so what about angle grinder through the ball joint shaft close into the bracket then drilling the rest out upwards,not keen on taking bracket off if i can avoid it,but if i do whats the best way to get the bracket off,its been on there 13 years.
