Alternator.

Jeep has gone in for its gas conversion, I was meant to be picking it back up today.
Just had a call to say the alternator is dead, Now I have had the car since October and its never failed to start or even hesitate to start. But it does get used daily.
The LPG place have had it for a week and moved it last wed and said it needed the booster pack on it, he then had to boost it today to get it going and went to fill it up with gas.
When he got there it died and the alternator is putting nothing out at all.
Do the jeep ones just do this or do the normally gradually stop charging, When I dropped it off volt gauge was 14.

I would think they have something to do with its failure, or it may just be the battery that has given up its life.

Battery isn't that old,
They have told me that is not putting out any charge, I just find it hard to understand how when they had the car it was fine and putting out the required output, it sits there for a week doing no miles and then apparently it isn't working at all.
What could they have done to bugger it up?
I will be wanting my old one back to have it checked out?

they could have shorted it out for a start, and seeing as they would have had to remove the battery for safety and maybe even the alternator depending on where they stuck things in the conversion I would want to pop down and take a look before they touched anything else

If I go down I wont know what to look for, replacement is £220, motor factors wanted over £400.
If I get the old one back would some where be able to look at it to see what the cause was???

you could get the vehicle recovered by them to your home and have the old one removed and taken to one of the many places that can repair them and they will tell you what was wrong with it.
Most alternator problems can be repaired a lot cheaper than they are to replace. They are quite simple things in reality.

TBH mate, I know a refurb is cheaper but I just need to car back, the out lay of loosing time from work, getting it recovered / then removing it etc.
I will just bit the bullet and tell them to get me the replacement at £220.
Need it back for Thurs to go meet Jedi and swap our wheels.

Maybe its been on its way out for a while, but because it never gets left long (over night the longest) I haven't noticed.

Turns out it was a buggered wire from the ECU to the alternator, so now they are taking the new one off, putting old one back on then turning it after the LPG.

Must have snagged something to damage the wire yes, don't worry I will be paying for the conversion and nothing more!
