Dont know if it cuts the sparky stuff but there's got to be something for the airbag, else it'd be a waste of time having it!
Also, it's deffo not in the front bumper 'cos thats just a fancy shaped bit of tin with a pair of plastic ends mounted in the same agricultural way as any CJ.
Look behind the headlights or some-where close like the inner wing panels.
Happy hunting.

no air bag in mine its the first steam powered version early mk1 we had a strange happening last night popped to Tesco and drove in to the parking bay and gave the plastic coated bollard a bit of a thwack   and turned the engine at identical time came back to jeep totally lifeless  flat bat as i thought got a jump start and it ran super with leads on but stopped as soon as leads took off

so towed it back with the mindy got it home and shorted thin wire acros terminals still conected to jeep dead no spark so i changed the batt and all is well again....................but the flatt bat now shows a good twelve volts and has a killer spark if shorted with thin wire yet was totaly flat did i reset something by disconnecting  the jeep cables

On newer Jeeps sometimes disconnecting the battery cable for a few minutes can overcome electrickery issues..

Battery fooked maybe??? Had similar thing with my sisters Saab. She pulled in somewhere, all ok,went to leave and battery totally dead,so as she was late, got a new one.I took old one, charged it up and it held 12. something volts for weeks. As soon as connected to a vehicle, nothing,so binned it
Or alternatively maybe the bump jolted a terminal lead loose????

impact sensors are there for air bags etc. frods has a crash impact sensor that would activate if the car struck a curb fast (dislodge the ball bearing stort of thing). Havent seen one on a mk1 so i would assume a bad connection in the battery or wire

On my facelift model it was under the passenger seat and then a Jeep recall relocated it to under the centre console due to Yank kids kicking it and setting it off.

I've never heard any stories of people bumping into stuff and the XJ not working after as you describe. I've dropped mine into a massive hole, bent all the front bumper in and cracked the front grill and it did nothing airbag or impact sensor related.
