Odd one..??

Past couple of times Ive used the WJ when I stop it theres a smell of petrol from the rear..No obvious sign of any leaks

Yet when i lift the bonnet and shut it the smell goes away

Most puzzling...

Been running it on 2-3 gallons with  top ups ...garage suggested issue was fuel expansion??? due to warmer weather which sounds a tad silly but stuck 7 gallons in (or @35litres) and issue seems a lot better....lets see

to comply with those meddling kids at brussels, vehicles are now fitted with a system to vent any vapours from the fuel tank  into the inlet manifold this comprises of a pipe from the tank and a one way solenoid valve under the bonnet. just a different avenue to explore but you may have a problem with this.

The tank should vent to a charcoal canister and then a purge valve/solenoid will push vapours into the inlet manifold. If the lines or canister have a leak you may occasional smell the fumes. If the charcoal canister is near the rear then it may explain the smell coming from the boot.

It's the union between the fuel filter and pipe thats rusted away
