Lights or no lights
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:32:12 PM »

My CJ6 had these on it when I brought it (side lights), now I'm pretty sure they are not factory and may have been added over the years or possibly from new in the UK to meet the then rules, question is should I keep them or remove them. Need to know so I can weld up the holes if so required.

they were standard on UK spec CJ7s (not sure about 6s)

I've fitted motorbike indicators on the front of mine, just enough for the mot :003:

you can use the originals and don't need to have them on the wings for the MOT tis a true sign of ghayness if they remain there.
all you need is a white sidelight mounted in the headlamp  and you can still run the  original park/indicator lamps

I got over the side light issue by fitting mini headlights with built in side lights

mini headlamps are lower wattage aren't they? ( i know they are if they are the sealed beam variety) but you can run vw mk1 golf headlamps and you used to be able to get them new from eurocarparts for @£10 a side and you can fit the 60/55 h4 bulbs and relays for improved  light  output

If you are going to put the front end in muddy puddles that will cover the headlights, then sealed beams might be better. My CJ5 has Lucas headlight units with halogen bulbs and sidelights.Going by all the work you`ve done a re-wire was carried out? If so a good job would have included such things as fuse box`s and relays, which should in turn mean that the lights etc are bright.
