My Grand Cherokee (2003) 2.7 CRD has started suffering from some starting issues over the last four weeks or so, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in a direction for trouble shooting. What Ive noticed is it takes quite a lot of engine cranking (sometimes as much as 30 seconds) and I have to put the accelerator pedal hard to the floor to get it to fire. Essentially, it doesnt matter if its a cold day, or if the Jeep has been standing over night, or if its just done a 300 mile trip or just a short trip down the local shops, its the same each time. Once its started though, I have no problems at all, it idles steadily and I have no lack of power or stuttering. So far I have checked the car for fault codes (both with the key trick and an OBDII machine), but nothing comes up. I've stuck a bottle of STP diesel engine cleaner in, and am going to swap out the glow plugs (the Jeeps done nearly 70k and I'm guessing they are the originals) so probably worth doing anyway. The fuel filter was changed about 15k ago (long before these issues appeared), but I'll change this again just in case. I'll also do an engine flush and change the oil and filter. Hopefully all this will take care of anything related to carbon build ups or crap in the engine. Can anyone suggest anything else that might be the culprit for causing this, or has anyone experienced anything similar before? Thanks very much
one of the injectors are duff needs a bleed off test, to find out which one.doodo a search on here, for crd strife
Thanks both Joe and Daggie for your replies.Joe, I'll also swap out the air filter just in case (its not a very expensive part so could be worth doing just in case). I haven't checked to see if leaving the ignition on for a while before cranking will solve it, so i'll give that a go later.
make sure you get the seals (Keith always supplies them) and some grease, and clean the seats too.
Shoot it...

It won't. You need to attach pipes to the top of each of the injectors and put the other ends into cups (I used the lids of grease sprays) and then crank the engine. It's likely that one or more of the injectors will fill the cup with diesel fast, the other non fucked ones will pump some out, but it's unlikely any will end up in the cups. If you need pipe, go to Halfrauds and get some clear plastic pipe, cut it to length and find 5 recepticles (I've never used that word in a post before) then try it.When you find the fucked one(s) go to uniteddiesel.co.uk, ask for Keith and give him the part you need (098) then swap them out, make sure you get the seals (Keith always supplies them) and some grease, and clean the seats too.Fit the new injector(s), then start
TBHI have most tools and the knowhow to do most thingsit cost me 340 squids to do 2 injectors & three seat cuts
4, if its the rear two injectors, they are cunts. 5, let them swear and get diesel everywhere
