Back on track guys

Any of you CJ builders know what thread type/size bolts on the windscreen/bonnet hinges please ?

Some of the torx died (drilling out....that was exciting) also old hinges are countersunk, bling ones aren't.

5/16" unc x 1" and you can get stainless countersunk with allen key heads over the counter and any faster supplier

I agree, hex heads are much more serviceable but countersunk look better

The new bling hinges are not countersunk so would like to go with ss allan (socket) heads

if your making new panels or fitting pattern parts can't you replace the captivated nuts with welded metric equivalents ?

Good call, and thought about this myself but the lower hinge bolts through with a nut at the back so M8 is possible here.

The wind screen itself however (top of the hinge) is threaded so will have to get UNC to match.

Short of drilling out and re-tapping with M10 or something.

On a happier note :

I gave my poorly, rusted, somewhat pitted front bumper to me mates in the paintshop on Tuesday.

Got it back this morning.

Been a good few days in the shop:

Reconstructed OS & NS window pillars, Stainless inserts bonded into place, and filled, NS in process of sanding.
All areas that have been ground down on the bodywork have now been filled.
New stainless bulkhead behind NS rear wheel.
Cleaned out engine bay and dealt with flaking paint (blue hamerite), protected chassis and other bits and bobs I could not reach from below.
Taken bonnet off, wire brushed all inside, flaking paint and minor rust, recoated in blue hamerite and re-fitted.
Seats taken apart, to go to be recovered tomorrow.
Sprayed front recovery point & airfilter lid in audi-red. Front recovery point to be bolted to bling bumper.
filled and faired gaypod holes in front wings

Hate sanding filler, you think its smooth and then its still a moonscape or you sand to deep and have to refill again

Can't wait till Saturday to carry on.

Correct. What also helps is that since the windscreen hinge bottom bolts through, that will help with strength.

On the other hand.....I've dragged some crazy shit out of the shipyard. Not everything HAS to be welded today,
like you say, as long as it is non structural, no worries.......I cant see myself 'gluing' my chassis together but I'm sure
NASA has got a solution for that too
