Electric power seats problem solved
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:18:58 PM »

I thought I would share a common problem resolution.  ps I am no mechanic or electrician but it could save some of you hundreds of pounds I would imagine.

My power seats stopped working.

The tilt buttons would work to go up but not down??

The back/fwd/up/down joy stick would work to go up/down/fwd but not back??

I ended up with my face up against the windscreen.

I unscrewed the grey seat surround (three screws) take off and put aside.

Free out the button box and wires behind and with a small flat screwdriver prise and unclip the box with the wires,  from the button fascia. Its a white box inside the black cover.

Now you will have the buttons facia (with little spikes sticking out the back) and its casing free in your hands.

Now it gets fiddly. you have to again unclip this inner box(white) away from the button fascia (black). even smaller flat screwdriver.

inside you will see a lot of copper touch connectors. (not a circuit board at all)

With a scalpel clean the tiny touch connectors (magnifying glass helps). Mine were slightly black, only slightly though, the rest of the inside was sparkling clean.

That's all it was slightly dirty connectors. How dirt got in there I will never know.

Anyway click it all back together and mine worked like a dream.

Time taken: 1hr
Money saved: 200 quid
Pints drank: 10.

I hope this helps.
