Recovery points??

As Turkey hunt is looming I have a minor technical issue.

As my WJ has an A bar on the front, the recovery eyes have been removed to fit the A bar brackets,

Now chances are high that at Turkey hunt I will require a tow depending on how good the new Grabbers perform. I have got a tow strop in preparation but nowhere to attach it to.

So, how and where car I recover from, I have been looking to see if I can put a shackle on somewhere but so far I have had any ideas.

What do you think? oh an no removing the A bar isnt an option as it was a complete arse to put on.

Yes I did think about rear recovery but would still like something on the front if anyone has ideas.

remove the A bar and fit reovery points or use longer bolts and add the origionals back on.


or just leave the A bar on and someone will remove it for you when you get stuck

I will have a look, see if I can get longer bolts in. To be honest I struggled to get the A bar brackets on in the first place.

Wonder if I could weld the original towing eyes onto the chassis and put shackles on them?

for a longer term solution have a look for a front receiver hitch, when not in use is very discrete, when needed can fit various attachments inc a recovery point or winch

this sort of thing

Not good still, I cannot use those mounting points.


What about something like this, I can replace one of the securing bolts to the A Bar where the original tow eye was?

Still something holding the A Bar in place, plus an eye on the end to put a shackle on for recovery rope.

how far do you need to go back.

as long as the eyebolt face is against a flat piece of metal you should be ok.

if your only bolting into the first 1" of thread then forget it as the threaded bar will bend like chocolate if a side load is applied

It will be bolted up to the eye with no thread showing at all.

I may need to trim the thread length but rather start with to much and trim to suit.

You may want to think about get a 4 ton version of those.
As 2 ton of jeep stuck in mud could need a lot more then  2 ton of pull to un-stick it.
Thats why we fix winches 9000 lb / 4 ton or better winches to our jeeps
