This is the rear UJ / CV at the diff end of the driveshaft (Rear Diff)... looks like the top "Cup" has split and there's something screwy at the bottom too
Guess I know what was causing the vibes now :twisted:

You just need a new UJ, it'll come with all you need (it's the bearing cap that's split - a new uj will come complete with four new caps).
Easy to change you'll just need to remove the prop shaft cos it's easier to do on a bench!
Might aswell change both ends whilst you're at it - expect to pay about £20 an end.

the import option is cheaper ed, just means you gotta wait for em. its always worth keepin a few spare prop and front shaft uj,s cos they do go from time to time.

but no idea if that's the right ones....
Also, anyone got a few tips on the removal and replacement.... From the book it looks like removing the prop is just undoing the rear end (Strap bolts) and releaseing the dust cover from the tranny case end (Marking it first) before you pull it off. I take it you can use cable ties when you put this back on
?
But then it starts talking about needing a press.... now are we talking a g-clamp and a bit or force, or do you really need a press / vice (of which I own neither!) especially as it seems that the new ones "Push in"
So, I need a shopping list and an idiot guide........ Please

as Greggmo has said get a greasable one. Depending on how stuck it is you can normally use a big bench vice to press the UJ out, just use a suitable size socket to help press the end caps through.

If it helps,
I have a 153x greasable, and a 760x non-greasable uj.
If you need one quickly you can use what you need and just give me a replacement back when you get your order through!

Thanks, that's a really nice offer....
Fortunately, I'm in no rush as I have the nutty car as transport, just want to make sure I order the right bits coz I'll get shit from the girly if I get the wrong ones....
Mad4wd seem to do the exact bits I want for $10 for the 153x and $20 for the 297x / 760x one.... dunno if they ship to the UK, but failing that, I'll get them land shipped to our US office and call in a favour...

XJ ones are definitely the same as Landy ones (I've had both, remember), and you can get the Landy ones for about a fiver each
. Might be worth checking if they fit the TJ, could be a real cheap fix (and useful longer term for other members!).
