Hi everyone - I'm Dec,a forum newbie - oil pressure question
« on: January 09, 2006, 11:46:31 AM »

Hi everyone, My name is Declan, I'm the proud (& frustrated) owner of a 2000 reg Cherokee 2.5td commercial.

I was advised to ask for Mike Pavelin's assistance on the following problem.  My oil pressure gauge doesn't work anymore.  It's been this way for over a year and has been through 2 services and the garage (a main dealership) somehow avoids fixing it.  I believe that the sensor/switch is hidden so well that only a single celled organism could access it, but could anyone tell me where exactly it is??  One of the chaps on Difflock suggests it's behind the turbo, which I haven't had tim eto check yet.  Not afraid of some spannering - but just haven't a clue where I should be waving my spanners and the 'check gauges' light is starting to bug me.

Please help - Dec:o)

The oil switch on the late XJ diesel is lurking in the right hand side just under the manifold assembly about halfway back along the engine. It's a right dastard to get at.

BTW, Commercial XJ? 8)

OOOH, I think I may have passed it by in my travels around the engine, but even unplugging it didn't make a difference - I'll have a look again.  Yeah mine's a commercial, It's a wonderful Irish way around paying extortionate tax.  Irish vehicles are taxed on the cc of the engine, unless they are deemed commercial - no seats and no windows in the rear and flat floor (Jeep has gentle sloping from luggage area to front seats).  So a lot of vehicles are converted at the port, I believe the Discovery commercial was invented over here for instance, then it's popularity spread.  I've even seen a Merc m-class commercial.  I think the dutch have a similar setup, but they extend the roofs as well.  Commercial tax is 250euro regardless of engine cc, private tax could be 4 times that, and I wouldn't even like to think how much my 4litre Hilux would cost to tax as a private vehicle.

Hi it is above the starter motor and under the manifolds around no 3 cylinder and only just visible, It took me a long time to find on mine as I have the same engine problem and it looks a b****rd to get at, I don't know if removing the EGR valve would help,  any comments from anyone who has done this would help.
