XJ front driveshaft Universal Joints
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:24:29 PM »

Well I thought I'd motivate myself to prep the Islamic Ja'heap for the MOT.... I noticed that the front UJ's were totally kippered and needed replacing... My question is what is a reasonable price for decent joints and where from? Had a looksee on the Bay of thieves and Mansfield are selling them for about 29 quid per side but I would like to buy some with grease nipples if they are available in the UK

Thanks guys... I don't mind paying a few bob extra for decent kit. Just don't want to get mugged.

Thanks Gaz but after shipping and potential import duty would I really save much and is it worth the effort on a couple of UJs?

Having spoken to the very helpful chap from Lighthouse it would seem that normal sealed for life UJs would be best for my application... I was of the impression that the greasable UJs would require periodic greasing as in every X thousand miles but it seems that they need greasing every outing and are more suited to dedicated off roaders... So standard stuff for me

Aye, that's what the fellow said..... Greasing every 5-6000 miles is no prob but every week or so becomes a bit of a bind.

Just had a look at the rear diff (The axle came off my old K reg to replace the original that had massive backlash) that was making a loud grumbling noise when going round tight bends when the diff had run for a few miles... Drained the brown sludge and refilled with nice new oil and all is quiet (Apart from the resonating at 70)
