they do steering box kits but not seen pump kits .

also been looking and from what I can tell the Renault Clio Mk1 1.4 uses the same pump but with a different pulley, can anyone confirm this? if so they are only about £15 from the breakers so might be worth investigating

I have the standard 151 pump on mine and got a seal kit from lighthouse but either it was too far gone or there was a problem as it was exactly the same again within a month

Aren't cj steering pumps the same or similar as the boxes inter swap with the cj ?

the same basic pump is used on loads of yank motors, just with different pulleys, but they seem to want $150+ for em, if it works out the clio unit is the same then it will be a £15 breakers yard deal .

my only concern with fitting a seal kit is the unit does not leak and still looks like it circulates fluid but does not assist the steering recon it will be more than a damaged seal

also looks like the 151 (iron duke) uses the same as the 258 and 304/360 but the 150 uses a different pump, not that it affects my situation just an observation

do you know if it was the 150 AMC engine or the 151 GM (iron duke) engine? cos think they had slightly different pumps

the 151 was a crossflow (inlet one side, exhaust on the other side) and the 150 had both on the same side

Im travelling to Portsmouth & back (tomorrow night back Friday Morning) via M40, A34, M3, M27 if thats any good?
Otherwise I'll have to get a post quote on Monday.
Make me an offer?  :icon_biggrin:

it will fit the 4.2 using the 4.2 bracket, thanks for the offer but sort of wana see it the clio unit will work cos if it does it will make for a cheap supply for anyone else who needs one :icon_winkle:

well here is a result, the clio power steering pump is the same, could be used as is with the supplied reservoir but that will tilt it over by 15 % or so, so the plan is to pull the pump out of the reservoir and put it in the original CJ reservoir.

so for future reference instead of $160 plus tax and duty, get a Renault clio mk1 1.4 8 valve pump (and looks like it's only this model that has the right unit) for £16 delivered from the bay

we also gave the engine a once over, new plugs done the timing etc and now starts and runs loads better, still got a flat spot but will live with it for now and return to it if time allows.

all in all a good day

I dont suppose these would work on a 1979 cj7 258. I have manual steering and its a bitch even around town. Would like to get a power steering pump and PS gearbox to convert. i believe they are like gold dust for a RHD.
