Jeep didn't wanna start this morning, all lights on dash come on (didn't go dim when turning key), but nothing happened when turning the key.

Locked it & un-locked it a few times still nothing, wiggled the selector on the autobox to get it out of park position (this didn't move as the key wasn't in at the time) dont actually know why I did this on reflection but heh.

Tried it again for about the 6th attempt & she fired up straight away as usual :cry:

go under the bonnet and pull the relays out and put them back in (i think its the second one) that worked for a mate of mine.

So it would seem Stew, cheers chaps, will look into those relays.

The only thing I was worried about was crank position sensor type thingies as I would have expected a clicking or the dash lights dimming if it were the starter.

Now wheres me manual :lol:

Some auto's only start in P or N, and some only with the brake pedal (Never having had a Jeep auto, I don't know them) depressed, of course, both these have sensors so if you played with the auto stick, it may have been it wasn't quite in P properly, or a dodgy sensor down there.

Worth checking first.....

Cheers matey, long time no speaky, trust you & Em are ok.

Found me box of relays piece o cake, just spoke to Westway parts dept where I get discount from & need some service items anyway.

They suggested that there is a park/neutral switch which may be dodgy.
Any thoughts welcome.

Waiting for some prices, prob gonna change the relay to be on the safe side, seems to be a few the same part number at first glance, so be good to have as a spare.

It just started fine, so fingers crossed.

Swap it for the horn relay and see what happens.

Started & stopped it a few times at lunchtime & all worked fine (touch wood) :lol:

If it plays up again I will swap em about.

If it still does it, I'll jiggle the shift lever & hope that sorts it. Could that be the cause or do you think it was pure fluke ?

Funny you should say that Daggie because every now & then they dont :wink:

Something I have only noticed in the wintertime being dark going to & from work.

Think they are working 9 out 10 times though, will pay more attention.

Where be this neutral safety switch of which you speak o wise one ??

If you're talking XJ, it's incorporated in the transmission selector switch assembly on the side of the transmission. It's a big thing, you can't miss it.

Probably if you have to wiggle the shifter to make it start.

OK, would I be right in presuming this switch either fits underneath at the base of the selector or on the outside of the gearbox ?

And, are mk1 XJ's & mk2 (such as mine) switches interchangeable i.e. is there any difference that would stop me fitting an earlier one ?
