mercedes 300 GD
« on: March 30, 2012, 09:30:18 AM »

here's a question.

Had a go in one of these some time ago...... Not as agric as they look.... Good build quality.

looking at an older one still strong £ tho!

2.9 diesel turbo 5 cylinder.... Reputed to be the  half million mile motor( in a car)

Question is do they tow well ( the long wheelbase version) will it tow the 1 ton and a triaxle trailer as well as the GC???

Not looking for fast...... GC tows at 55 so just want to be able to know if it goes up hills :hysterical:

Tis what I'd hope someone would say.... :icon_twisted:
They seem to be well put together.
Last one I looked at was a 1990 SWB was immaculate and still unmarked grey velour interior, god knows how. Went for over £4
Which was a bit of a shock :jpshakehead:

Hopefully LWB is uglier and less loved. But better for crap carrier and towing......must be a mighty big eBay spares thing going on for these ....I hope

its not the bhp you need to look at its the torque that counts on a diesel. Mind you  can't see it being any slow than the 90' i got here and thats a TD lol ( and this is rated to pull 4 tons) lol

tis back to 'sceptic' trucks for me ........

Pig basic Ford 351 + auto or chev 350 +th350/400

Gotta be pre road tax bollix and ready for a cheap barby fuel conversion from Tinley... then I'd be happy with that as a jeep hauler and daily driver...........

Arr yes spotted this.... Reckon it could go for silly £££ what with the cooking oil brigade and the red diesel cowboys.
I'd have it at the current price tho.

Yup that is the prob, we don't have a proper 25 year rule like we were promised :jpshakehead:

£200 or so is still a few miles in going to events so worth saving by no feckin' tax :icon_super:

What you want is a Range Rover LSE, 4.2 V8 210BHP

The extra 8" Wheelbase over a standard RRC make the differance.

They tow luverly.... :icon_super:

Traction control and all that too

They are high maintenance, but worth it....

Just gotta know how to look after them :098:
