Guys,

I've just done a complete overhaul on my rear brakes after finding that the slaves had seized and the shoes had worn badly, thing is now once adjusted I have a good brake pedal and it seems to pull up nicely but my park brake is non existent. Now I've heard that the CJ's park brake was never very good but I thought it would be much better than this especially new and adjusted properly. It also seems to stick on even once released (yes the cables are loose), any sugestions or tricks to overcome this, was thinking of installing a hydro brake or something.

I've just purchased the SSBC rear disc conversion for my TJ, think that will solve your problem, but the kits not cheap

Yeah its an option but not in the budget at the mo, looking for other ideas

As long as it passes the MOT or whatever you have there then get a hydro one from Demon Tweaks!

Mine will hold on any slope with discs...... Best thing I did!

check your cables are free they get v stiff you often only get an inch of free move ment and they just wont pull up on the brakes

pants to that, fit an eleccy solenoid in the rear brake line, like I have, 1 stamp on the brake pedal and you ain't going nowhere! cost me £50, plus the install, Mine is activated on a N/O microswitch on the handbrake lever

Thats good to know, but they say that the electric ones are not very good for permanent handbrakes (road vehicle, but I don't need to worry about MOT's etc) and are not designed to be run continuously (fail), and apparently they will slowly release. I was looking at Pirate 4x4 and this (manual valve) is apparently what they are all using now. Same prinicple but can be used permanently and no electrics to go wrong. Again very simple to install.
