Ring and pinion manufacturers
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:08:17 AM »

Who do we think are the strongest ring and pinion manufacturers are? I am sure i have ally usa on the back and just in case i have weakened it i think i will replace it. Am tempted to go with yukon. Are there any HD r&p's available? What about this cryo treatment? Can you peg a dana diff or is there an equivilent?

Doesn't pegging stop the pinion coming away from the ring? Though i will truss the rear axle (for triangulation) i expect there may still be some 'flex'

Diff pegging is only done on Landy diffs since they are made from a hybrid plastic.

Cryo treatment is deep freezing the plot in liquid nitrogen (I believe) tis meant to realign the molecules into a stronger pattern???

Dubious really I read an article on UJs and the Cryo variant broke first :jpshakehead: bit embarrasing

Somone will doubtless say it's the bollix but personally tis 'King's New Clothes' always better to man up and just get something stronger in the first place :icon_super:

well ask if there is any discounts for combining it with 4.88 on FSJ dana 44's and a richmond locker

even free internal shippig would be helpful as then it could go via bundlebox

Also interested in some gear and rebuild kits - let me now if group buy is possible for some discount.

I notice Randy's do Yukon and USA Standard Gear, Yukon being twice the price an dgood quality and USA Standard being "not for quiet running vehicles". Are they also going to be weak and shite or just noisy?

Edit: I'd be looking for 4.88 gear sets for HP Dana 30 and Chrysler 8.25 and master install kits for both.

I have said it before, but its always best to ring them. You usually get something thrown in or a discount on shipping from my experience

Got our Yukon re-gear kit & true tracs from Randy's.

Good service, only thing I would say is they only gave me one tracking number but sent two box's, each with their own number, got seperated at customs which was a bit of a faff but got money back in the end off HMRC  :icon_winkle:

I'd side with IOM on this. Chase at ECGS is very helpful. He helped me get ARB shims for my R+P replacement when no fucker in this country was any use. I didn't get my R+P from ECGS but would in future. I went with Dana.

I've got lockers and shafts from Randy's before and am more than happy with their service. 4.88 is trickier to find for a C8.25 but I'm happy to use anyone that can do a good price.

For Will's original question - Yukon are very good, I've used their rebuild kits and uprated shafts for years and had no problems.
