Where do you guys buy your CJ7 shocks and consumables?
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:34:55 PM »

Hi I may be in the market next month for shocks and stabilizer when I complete a 2.5 inch lift on my '79 cj7 that is currently riding flat as a pancake (minus 1 inch lift).
Was going to order from the Quadratec but surely there is a place closer to home for this kinda stuff. When I order from the US i usually stock up on fuel filters and other consumables but I'm sure there is a land rover place in UK that can beat the prices.  Guy here in Ireland is selling them for 30% more than I can get them from quadratec including shipping (with other items).

Ebay uk only does them for 1982+.  So to summarise where do you guys get shocks, filters, fuel lines, hoses, etc.

Great, just what I need. I might even try some spacers I see he's got. I need about 5 different things to smooth out the ride as its not an offroader.

with the exchange rate I think the yanks are coming in much cheaper although I think if llama4x4 comes down 15% I'll give him the business.

If you are not in a hurry mate get it from the US but get them to post it using USPS (most will have this option or just ask), in Ireland anything that comes through the post is not subject to Duty charges, don't ask me why but I was told this at the start of my rebuild and have never had a problem, I've had some extremely large boxes from the US including a $500 box from Summit with my headers and other bits and also a couple of radiators. I have got stuff through the courier but you will end up paying Duty and admin charges so it will add up on large bits and on small bits can be even more than the part itself. I use a combination of RockAuto, 4Wheeldrive Hardware and Live 4x4. RockAuto is really good and efficient, the only problem is the shipping charges cause the parts may be shipped from different places so each place has there own charge, simple solution to that is make sure all the parts come from the same place. I have tried Lighty's but there courier charges to Ireland are crazy expensive and also their parts are considerably more than that from the US. For example I had to just replace my rear brakes shoes and cylinders, Lightys worked out with Courier to be nearly £200 where as I got the whole lot from RockAuto delivered for €75. Any issues give me a call, you have my number

I hav only got caught using 'ground mail' if the sending doofus puts the true value on the shipping label, not been caught if they stick to sub $20 however big or heavy the box

O and I got 10% off the items above cause I used a coupon I found online, so tat was 25 pound less. I was surprised at the low shipping too and courier rang today but said no duty was to be paid.  As I said before I have paid up to 400 dollars on shipping but that was leaf springs, floor pans etc. Plus that got caught for duty. Im going to keep the orders under 500 dollars from now on.

Unfortunatley you will get stung for duty, the couriers themselves are no longer collecting the money, you will get an invoice for the courier company themselves, usually within 2 weeks after delivery. Sorry to be the burden of bad news :010: I thought the same when I couriered in my drum brake rebuild kit, but I then got the bill in the post  :011: If you want to get away from paying duty in Ireland you have to get the parts posted (snail mail/packets) I always ask for them to be done USPS Express :greggmo:

based on my maths then I owe...

total  £316
+ 10% duty
= 347.6
+ 23% VAT
= 427.54
- 316
111.54 pounds (Ouch 140 Euro)

they will get a "No longer at this address" response from me.
