Warn XD9000

Been offered a warn XD9000 for "Offers"
It's had a bit of water inside and the freespool won't work. How easy are they to strip / rebuild? (Any schematics out there?) or a rebuild kit?
Just wondering what you guys recon its worth...
?

An decent unbranded 9000 lb winch can be had new for around £300 with a year's warranty etc. so certainly less than that. Difficult to tell what it's gonna need doing to it, but if the motor and solenoids are good, you're left with gears bearings and the freespool clutch to have a look at. If you're lucky they'll grease up ok if it hasn't been left to rot they're easy enough to strip and rebuild. Can't help on the price of spares, though. I'd say a couple of hundred max if it's an unknown quantity.

I got a Superwinch EP9 from Rebel 4x4, they do the EPI 9 too. I'd be inclined to buy new, you get the support then.
Think, if it 'Warn' on it it's gonna cost, if you rebuild you're still only going to have a rebuilt winch. Leave it alone, buy new.

Fair enough, just figured it was a warn so maybe worth a bit more even if I had to rebuild it....
Cheers for the advice.

ive got an old warn xd9000, must be 10 years old and it never skips a beat. its spent most of its time underwater and covered in mud and after selling unbranded winches ill just stick to my warn and get phil gordon to service it. but i do the routine strip and clean and grease, just takes 1 hour tops.
if it was me id pay upto £250 for an old warn and have it serviced by pg winches, it will last a lifetime.
but hey thats just me, ive just sent to many comeups and kews back for repairs after burnouts.

i recon if ya service any of em they will give years of service. at the end of the day the winch is designed to pull what it says and as long as you dont exceed that it should have very few problems. i still think the warn has got well overpriced now especialy when you have tools like the x9,s and ep9,s on the market.

warn winches are made my warn industries oregon(ie all the old ones like the xd9000), superwinch are made by comeup industries taiwan which are warn copies with some modifications.
id still buy a cheap warn over a copycat so if anyone has an old 8274 working or not that they want to swap for a new shiny comeup or timax give me a call. i want one for the front of the cruiser so i can put the xd9000 on the back.
