Spare wheel
«
on:

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to remove the spare wheel from the rear door of a 2002 3.7 Cherokee please? The manual says just to remove it..... I have the carrier with the number plate attached but cannot see any sort of release mechanism. It will be something simple I'm sure, but I am confused.
Please help
Keith

You're talking KJ, right?
If so, undo the phillips head screw holding the number plate frame in place and it will fold up or down depending on the setup. Under there you will see the heads of two or three short bolts..undo these and the carrier will swing away exposing the wheel nuts.

on mine, the phillips head screw is just below the number plate frame and centrally located. I had the same problem when I first got my Jeep...and it took me two days to find the jack and wheel brace!!!!

Thanks for that too.... I have found the jack though
Amazing what you realise you need right after you bought it isn't it?

Yep..it's a total learning experience. I had to ring the seller to ask about all this stuff, as mine came with no manual or books at all, just all the previous MOT's. Still, I'm happy with her..cracking little machine!!

Sorry should have replied sooner
I had to remove the number plate and then undo the two bolts holding the entire assembly in place, it then simply swings away....
Can't believe that I had to remove the number plate though, maybe there is a part missing?
Thanks for all the help and advice though guys

On mine there is a single, smallish screw, dead centre and just below the number plate..undo this and the plate folds upwards to give access to the bolt heads..undo those and then the carrier frame swings open, allowing access to the wheel.

Yes Thanks for that. I am thinking that there is a bit missing from mine.... Will need to find out more as removing the number plate seem a bit radical.....

Good pic! On mine the screw is just under the number '2', but my plate sits in a metal frame which folds upwards when the screw is undone. Yours looks like a right PITA!!

Maybe you can make a flat mounting plate for the number plate, attach a hinge and mount it so it works like mine does. I'll get mine out of the garage later on and take some pic's for you to get the idea.

Raining cats and dogs here at the moment, so may be a slight delay with the pic's.

Fair enough. Still chucking it down and half the country is on Red Alert..a month or so ago we had a similar situation and ten people drowned when a dam burst! Hoping history doesn't repeat itself.

Oh wow, find something very tall and incredibly strong to sit upon and don't leave until the water has gone down. Look out for a guy in a big boat full of all sorts of different animals, you will know you are in trouble then
Take care
