Kaiser M715 winch queries
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:54:59 PM »

The kaiser is 24v, which is two 12v batteries, so do I assume I need a 24v winch?

Either way, yes or no, why please?

And why Im here, is there an issue with going for a large rating ie 20,000lb or do you need to match it to the vehicles weight with some sorta mathematical nerdy formula?

Cheers gents

A 24 volt winch would be a good idea yes. Don't dick about with converters as youll be pulling too much current.

Your best off going higher voltage 24v pull half the current that a 12v does for the same work loads
control solenoids last longer and power cable don't need to be as thick
the other problem is that if you centre feed 12v off battery's for a winch you will upset the charge balance not good
you can run your CB and Radio ok with a centre off a 24v bat

as for the 20.000lb winch you just need to make suer it bolted down well and not going to pull the front of your mortor off

24v is still better that 12V

If your not bothered about having the Mutts Nutts of a winch, a lot to the winches on commercial recovery trucks are 24V 'cos the that's what the vehicle runs.

Not that I'm suggesting that you sneak up on someones wrecker truck with a handfull of spanners in the dead of night, but 24V winches do come up on eBlag all the time.

have traversed the archives of m715zone and seems 16's would make more sense but 15's will fit, just, and I may have to shave a few thousandths to squeeze them on
