Required: more of a V8 rumble
« on: May 25, 2012, 05:52:48 PM »

The Chief when sittin in the drive sounds uber sweet, blip the throttle and it gives any man with testosterone in their body a full on boner

But ............

Floor it on the road and it sounds like a 1000 psychopaths goin beserk with a 1000 US civil war Gatling guns  :070:

Currently it has hedman headers leading into twin straight thru pipes with a 3" cherry bomb on the end, and Im thinkin as this truck will be the family camping truck I may need to sort more of a rumble, or Mrs BD will not be happy at havin to remain silent for every truck as ya cant hear yaself think  :icon_super:

Thought? Ideas? Plans? All on a sensible budget please - Im not importing flowmaster etc

Cheers gents  :greggmo:

Some of the noise in the cab will be the header (if headman are the bunch of bananas type)
they cab be quietened a bit by heat wrapping them
thinking to your other post could the flat spot and this be linked due to lack of exhaust back pressure
(bloody hell i sound as though i know what i talking about - i don't - well a little bit (yet again its exactly what i did with the 67 Mustang)

Ade,

If it were me I would run a similar setup to my 6, it sounds sweet (real V8 rumble especially with a blip on the throttle, just ask the wife she loves it) but it is not crazy loud and is perfectly reasonable driving at highway speeds with the roof down. I have even installed a radio and can here it easily.
I have the Headman full length headers running into 2 x 2.5" pipes running into a flowmaster series 40 mufler on each side, this then drops out behind the rear axle. I have approx 10" of pipe out of the muffler.

If headers are tooooo big ya lose power as no back pressure.

Helps to have an H pipe near as poss to transfer case to help equalise power pulses sound nicer too then pipes to rear not toooo big

sometimes after h pipe if ya go 2 pipes side by side into big box then BIG one off pipe out of rear you get that monster V8 runble :icon_super:

Best to find a truck ya like the sound of and copy shamelessly :icon_twisted:

No find a vehicle (same engine) that you like the sound of and copy the setup, yes having someone that knows what they are doing (i.e. custom fabrication) is going to much better than some monkey that spends all day fitting standard boxes onto 1 litre shopping carts

No you need an AMC 360 V8 as all V8's sound different due to the designs of each engine, so find a truck with the 360 in it that you like.
